Joyce Audrey Hintze

November 26, 1931 — January 9, 2015

Joyce A. Hintze, age 83, of Oshkosh, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Oshkosh on November 26, 1931, a daughter of Harvey and Ila (Wolf) Gumz. On January 31, 1953, she married Eugene H. Hintze. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2009. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish.Joyce's first love and greatest joy was her family. Spending time with her ten children, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; following their lives, relishing their accomplishments, sharing in their joy, and joining in their sorrow; all were what made her, and her life, a celebration of love. She attended every sports event, concert, performance, and other activity in which her children and grandchildren participated. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout group leader, and a member of the PTO at the schools her children attended. Many of her summers were spent on camping trips with her family, each part of the memories her family will cherish. Later in life, she enjoyed cruises and trips to elder hostels with her husband.Joyce's love for other people was exemplified by her many volunteer efforts. These included serving two terms as President of the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary board. Also at Mercy, she staffed the coffee cart, worked in the emergency and X-ray rooms, and was the first volunteer for Mercy's Caring Companion program. She volunteered at the Oshkosh Food Pantry, and for many years worked at polling places on election days. She loved watching and attending baseball games, and would often walk across the street from her house to E.J. Schneider Field to watch games and enjoy a hot dog. She was an avid reader, and kept up on current events. Once a year she would travel to Oklahoma to care for her invalid brother Donald, so that her cherished sister-in-law Clara could rest and enjoy a vacation. She is survived by, and her memory will be cherished by, her six sons: Michael (Pamela) Hintze, Paul (Marla) Hintze, Matthew (Cheryl) Hintze, Peter (Shelly) Hintze, Benjamin (Carrie) Hintze, and Andrew Hintze; four daughters: Rachel (Gerald) Mahun, Julia Wahlberg (Special friend Tom), Jennifer (James) Baerwald, and Ann (Timothy) Snyder; 17 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Fetter, and Donna Miller; three brothers-in-law: Neil and Dennis Hintze, and Lowell Steinhilber; and four sisters-in-law: Eileen Bronson, Joanne Schlichting, Judy (James) Wollangk, and Sue Ludwig. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers: Donald and Harland, four sisters: Jane, Ruby, Lorraine, and Phyllis, and one grandson: Ryan Matthew Hintze.Funeral services for Joyce will be held on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 5 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes West side, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, with the Rev.
