Judith Irene Koenig

d. February 15, 2014

Judy Koenig died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 15, 2014. The only child of James and Florence McCarthy, she was born on April 10, 1943, in West Milwaukee. She graduated from UW-Whitewater with a BS in Business Education and an Economics minor. She began her teaching career in North Fond du Lac where she met her first husband Guenther Kaulfuss.Affectionately known by her students as Mrs. K, Judy joined the business department at Oshkosh High School 1969. She continued to teach both in the classroom and the community, supervising more than 800 budding secretaries in the co-op program over the next thirty years. In addition, she started a program in Banking and Finance, served as yearbook business advisor, business department head, and OASD Equality Officer. She filled a four-year term on the state board of the Wisconsin Business Education Association.Economics is the science of management, thrift, and efficient use of resources, areas in which she excelled. On October 24, 1986, she married the Reverend Thomas Koenig, managing in one day both to retain her classroom Mrs. K. sobriquet and to become mother to a broad of seven, adding Toms five children to her original two.Ebullient and effervescent, Judy warmed every room she entered and attracted friends everywhere she went. She was passionate about speed skating, ballroom dancing, teaching, traveling, fishing, playing bridge, and e-mailing friends. Although it restricted her participation in a few of her favorite activities, she managed her twenty-five-year battle against multiple sclerosis with good humor and courage. Nothing dimmed her enthusiasm for life and for those with whom she shared it.She was preceded in death by her parents and former husband. Survivors include her husband, her children; Cary Kaulfuss, Heidi (Mark) Balke, Robin Koenig and Kristen Klatt, Kelly (Bob) Zima, Nathan (Jenny) Koenig, and Joel Koenig; and grandchildren Calum and Case Balke, Christiana, Melody, Ben, Alisa, Tiffany, Serana, Noelle, and Arianna Klatt, and Seth, Evann, and Elias Zima.Services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Westside.
