Karen Florence Johnson, age 78, of the town of Algoma, quietly passed away April 24, 2014, at her home on Lake Butte des Morts. She was born July 4, 1935, in Green Bay, the daughter of Benjamin S. and Mae E. DeGrasse Johnson. Karen was raised in Oshkosh and educated in Oshkosh schools, graduating from OHS in 1953. She was employed by the city of Oshkosh for 37 years, retiring in 1992. Karen had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed living on Lake Butte des Morts. She enjoyed fishing, boating, and participating in many competitive sports. Following her retirement she traveled extensively and took up the game of golf. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament parish and was actively involved in various choirs for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Lake Butte des Morts Conservation Club and in later years enjoyed her weekly lunch and cards with the Nickel Bunch.Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Benjamin and Christian, and a sister-in-law Virginia Miller Johnson. Survivors include a sister-in-law Leona B. Johnson of Aurora, IL; ten nieces and nephews, including Vicki Blanken, Nancy Thomsen, Barbara Katchmar; Mark Johnson, Christine Martha, Steve Johnson, Sue Klimacek, Richard Johnson, Mary Dumas, and Karen (Casey) Waltz, along with many great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she was very proud. Visitation will be held Friday, May 2, 2014, from 9:00-10:30 am at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter site. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, with the Reverend Jim Jugenheimer officiating. After Mass all are invited to a luncheon in the church hall, followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery at 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
