Kathryn Mae Chase

Kathryn Kay Pfaff Chase, 83, of Oshkosh, died September 7, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.Kay was born in LaCrosse, WI on July 12, 1923, the daughter of Elmer and Emma Selin Haugen. After graduating from Logan High School, Kay spent the war years working as a welder in LaCrosse and Milwaukee. After the war, she traveled to Tucson, AZ where she was employed as a bank teller. She married Ronald Pfaff on November 26, 1949. Kay and Ronald spent the first years of their marriage living throughout the Midwest, eventually settling in Oshkosh where they raised their family. After Ronalds death in 1976, Kay worked at the Bethel Home as an Activity Coordinator. Kay married Lloyd Chase of Fond du Lac in 1978 where she lived until his death in 1995 when she moved back to Oshkosh. Folk painting, and visits to Florida, Arizona, and her cabin on the Mississippi River highlighted Kays retirement years. However, her greatest passion in life was her family.Kay is survived by her children, Greg (Pam) Pfaff and Mary (Len) Herricks all of Oshkosh, four grandchildren, Matt Herricks, Katie Herricks, Karl Pfaff, and Brooke Pfaff, a sister Maurine Stuhr and brother, Myron Haugen both of LaCrosse, and by a sister-in-law, Jean Haugen of Love Park, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Lloyd, Emery and Mike Haugen.Kay has been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh for over 45 years.Her funeral will be Sunday September 10, 2006 at 3:30 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church 400 Sawyer Street in Oshkosh with the Rev. Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Burial will be in the Green Mound Cemetery in Holmen, WI. Family and friends may visit at the church on Sunday from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. A memorial to the American Cancer Society has been established.
