Lavona M. Reichenberger

May 4, 1917 — March 19, 2012

LaVona M. (Doty) Reichenberger, 94, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012, at Appleton Health Care Center (The Avenue), into the arms of Christ. She was born on May 4, 1917, in Elderon, WI, to Louis and Julia (Elfson) Doty. On June 30, 1936, she married Frank Reggie Reichenberger at Sacred Heart Church, Oshkosh. Frank preceded LaVona in death on December 5, 1984.LaVona was a woman of deep faith who looked for the best ineveryone. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed manyfriendships. She was appreciative of her life and when upsets wouldoccur along the way, she would depend on the Lord to help herthrough them.As a young wife, she learned how to prepare some of her husbands favorite foods he had enjoyed from his German background. Her rye bread, dumplings, and baked beans became a favorite of others also and she was always asked to prepare them by the people she entertained, or when she was to bring a dish to a social outing. Many of her recipes have been handed down to her great-grandchildren. Her talents with a needle and thread were also evident. She was a seamstress, a tailor, and an upholsterer. While her family reaped the benefits of these hobbies, she was always willing to help another person out who had difficulty finding something in the stores. Not only did LaVona find this relaxing, she found great satisfaction in making a piece of cloth into something useful. When her husband became homebound in later years shediscovered a new avenue in which to spend quiet time; that was oilpainting. She was often called the new Grandma Moses. It was apastime she truly enjoyed. While she could have sold them shefound pleasure in giving them to those who would appreciate them as she did. They will live on in the homes of many.Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Richard) Geurtz of Kaukauna; son Gary, Arizona. They also include two granddaughters, Catherine (Rick) and Elizabeth, seven great-grandchildren; Kyra, Aleea, Hope, Nadia, Ty, Paige, and Grant, along with numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, are her parents; her sister, Eva Gunderson; her brother, Arnold Doty and sister-in-law, Eleanor; 5 of her 6 sisters-in-law; and all 6 of her brothers-in-law, along with nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home (Westside) with Father William Van De Kreeke officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are so very many people who have touched Moms life as she journeyed through her life in order to achieve the ultimate happiness she is now enjoying. We are appreciative of each and everyone of them and will never forget their kindness, concern, and love for our mother. They have touched our lives as well because of their Christian spirit. We all are better people because of Moms belief in, and devotion to the Lord.
