Laverne Charles

LaVerne A. Charles, 86, of Oshkosh died Wednesday September 30, 2010 at Vallhaven Care Center, Neenah. She was born August 14, 1924 in Oshkosh a daughter of the late Frederick and Marie Klima Judkins. LaVerne married her high school sweetheart, Melvin N. Charles, on December 4, 1942 in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2009. LaVernes greatest joy in her life was her family and she devoted her lifetime to serving them. She loved each new baby that came along and was happiest holding a little one. An immaculate housekeeper, she also enjoyed crocheting, cooking, playing the organ, and was an excellent seamstress. Her skill with crossword puzzles made her the go to gramma for those difficult word puzzles in homework assignments. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. Her survivors include; a son Thomas (Barbara) Charles of Oshkosh; a daughter Ren (Val) Palmer of Oshkosh; a sister Marion (Allen) McCray of Oshkosh; sister-in-law Dora Judkins; five grandchildren Shawn (Sarah Beth) Palmer, Alisa (Paul) Matthies, Christopher Charles, Aaron (Sarah Anne) Palmer, and Kimberly (Justin) Mueller; eight great-grandchildren Alec, Joshua, Ross, Nathaniel, Gabriel, Kaia, Ezra, and Zoe. She was preceded in death by a son Joseph, a brother Howard Judkins, and a sister Betty Theabo. A memorial service for LaVerne will be held Monday October 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, Bishop Timothy Kakuschke officiating. Visitation will be at the Lake Pointe Dr. funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all the dollys at Vallhaven Care Center (especially special friend Brooke) for their kindness and compassion given to LaVerne and the entire family.
