Lawrence William Papenfuss

March 9, 1933 — December 12, 2013

Lawrence W. Oscar Papenfuss, 80, of the town of Nekimi, died on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in Milwaukee following an automobile accident. He has been reunited with his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley Dorman Papenfuss; whom he married on October 21, 1955 and has been missing immensely since she preceded him in death on May 9, 2005. Larry was born on March 9, 1933 in Winona, MN the son of William and Bernice Clow Papenfuss.Larry was a Korean War Navy veteran, serving in the Seabees and was a graduate of Winona (MN) High School. Larry had diverse jobs before settling in as a machinist at Rockwell International for 27 years; retiring in 1992. Prior to Rockwell, he worked for the railroad, for Denigers in Oshkosh, and for Oshkosh Printers. While working at Rockwell, he also farmed the 60 acre farm that he has owned since the spring of 1958 and worked part time jobs for Dehn Trucking, helping with the Park Plaza construction, and more. After retirement, Larry worked in maintenance for the Holiday Inn of Oshkosh for a short time. Larry enjoyed farming, shooting trap, hunting, fishing, going to countless auction sales, collecting antiques, and playing cards. Larry built a log cabin from the ground up. Larrys greatest love was his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the rest of his family; including his canine daughter of 9 years, Shania. Survivors include his children, Lacy (Theresa) Papenfuss of Van Dyne, Dan (Judy) Papenfuss of Oshkosh, Julie (Gary Stetson) Papenfuss of Hortonville, and Brian Papenfuss of Franklin; grandchildren, Maria (Scott) Groeschl, Anthony, Joshua, Nicholas, and Jacob Papenfuss, Christine (Andy Steen) Hermann, Cassandra Maves, and Ivana Ivy Krahn; great grandsons, Scott and Dan Totsky. Also surviving are his sister, Rachel (Walter) Glende of California and brother, Carlton Pat (Carol) Papenfuss of Minnesota. Besides his wife and parents, Oscar was also preceded in death by his brothers, James, Marion Tiny, and Allyn Mike Papenfuss; and sisters, Alicia Lassie Robinson, Eunice Buettner, and Annabelle Papenfuss.A funeral service will be on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home (Westside) with Rev. James Reiff officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
