Leo August Schmidt, age 84 of Oshkosh, passed away on June 22, 2014 at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. He was born May 17, 1930 in Stockbridge, WI, the son of Walter and Helen (Perock) Schmidt. He married Geraldine Gerry Tauschmann on August 22, 1959 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Oshkosh.Leo served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked at Badger Concrete and then Mercury Marine until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed reading, watching television, taking trips to Las Vegas, was a fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers and an avid Elvis fan.Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Geraldine, two sons, Timothy and James both of Oshkosh, three sisters, Shirley Pellinger of Oshkosh, Ruth (Dean) Tulledge of Rochester, MN and Patricia (John) Doemel of Oshkosh, one sister-in-law, Olga Tauschmann of Oshkosh, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins.Leo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Wayne Tauschmann and Richard Pellinger, a niece, Lisa Doemel, an infant sister, Gertrude, his good friend, Hank VanderSande and several special pets, Louie, Suzie, Charlie and Autumn.A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Oshkosh with Father James Jugenheimer officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.The family would like to thank the staff at Bridgewood in Neenah for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Pat and Shirley for their assistance at this time of grief.
