Leonard E. Wesner, age 83, of Oshkosh, WI died September 4, 2005 at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born on May 19, 1922 to the late Fred and Tillie Wesner of Green Lake. He was the youngest of 13 siblings who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife,Caroline; children, Beverly (Thomas) Glaeser of Oshkosh, Frederick (Diane)Wesner of Janesville, Leonard Joseph (Debra) Wesner of New Berlin, Leanne Poeschl of Appleton, Andrew(Jenny) Wesner of Oshkosh, and Karen (James) Dean of Oshkosh; his grandchildren, Edward Glaeser, David, Frederick and Elizabeth Wesner of Janesville, Jessica,Margaret and Leonard John Wesner of Milwaukee, David (Erin) and Michael Poeschl, Alyssa, Alex Aubrey, and Amelia Wesner of Oshkosh. At age 20, Leonard defended his country by serving in the 462nd Medics in World War II. He sailed to Scotland on the Queen Mary and was transported across the English Channel to Normandy where he drove a Dodge ambulance for two years. He was discharged on Christmas Eve in 1945 and he returned to his home in the Green Lake area. On May 29, 1948 he married Caroline Petlock in Ripon, WI and moved to Oshkosh where he worked at Dahl Motors and later at Wertsch Motors as a body shop technician until he opened his own shop, Wesner Auto Repair, on South Park Avenue in Oshkosh in 1957. He loved working at his shop and continued to do so on a parttime basis after his retirement when his son, Andy, took over the business in 1992. In honor of Lens legacy, Wesner Auto Body will be closed on Thursday, September 8. Leonard loved cars in general, but especially red vintage Ford Mustangs, which he enjoyed restoring and driving in numerous local parades, especially the Miss Wisconsin Parade. He loved fishing and boating and lived on the shore of Lake Winnebago during the 60s and 70s. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.Visitation will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, on Thursday, September 8, 2005 from 10 am to 1 pm with a mass of Christian burial immediately following. There will be a private burial service for the immediate family. A memorial has been established for St. Raphael Church
