Lincoln Foster

March 8, 1916 — July 29, 2009

Lincoln H. Foster age 93 of Oshkosh died on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Webster Manor in Omro. He was born on Jay Hill, Maine a son of Naomi Smith. He was later adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle, Alice and Ralph Foster. Lincoln married Dorothy Pearl Ringland on February 18, 1939 in Lexington, MA. Dorothy died in 1994 after 53 years of marriage.Lincoln graduated from Jay High School thanks to the care and guidance of Mrs. Grant, his junior homeroom teacher. He worked as a lumber jack and was a semi pro boxer before leaving Maine to start his apprenticeship. A four year apprenticeship was served with Cousins and Pratt at the Charleston Navy Yard outside of Boston, MA. He worked in Boston after completing his apprenticeship and took a job with Joys Bros. in Milwaukee in 1941. He continued to work for Joys Bros until 1948, when he moved his family to Oshkosh and started Lincoln Foster Sailmakers. He sailed the Chicago to Mackinaw race 25 times and was considered an island goat. Lincoln also sailed the Trans Superior race one time. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Winnebago. Lincoln was a past master of Centennial Lodge #205 F. & A.M. and a member of Winneconne Lodge #186 F. & A.M. and the United Commercial Travelers.Survivors include one son Lincoln H. (Helen) Foster II, Winneconne; three daughters, Verlie (Fred) Goetz, Chatfield, MN; Cheryl Foster, Rockwall, TX. and Patricia Foster, Prague, Czech Republic and Oshkosh; one sister, Francis Yeaton of Maine; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; mother Naomi, adoptive parents, brothers Waldo Nichols, Steve Nichols; sisters, Ivie Nichols, Sylvia Murphy and two grandchildren, Andrew Foster and Caitlin Goetz.Funeral services will be held at RiverValley Church (1331 High Ave.) on Saturday August 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Neil Wilson officiating followed by Masonic Services conducted by Winneconne lodge #186. Family and friends may call at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Eastside on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM to the time of service. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial has been established.
