Lois Louise Rodgers

Lois L. Rodgers, 86, of Oshkosh, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at her home, following a brief illness. She was born on April 8, 1921 to the late William F. and Luella E. Klug Grasee. She married Thurman W. Rodgers in Oshkosh on June 18, 1947. Thurman preceded her in death on December 26, 1999. Lois graduated from Oshkosh High School receiving ONeil Honor Society and National Honor Society honors. She graduated from the Oshkosh State Teachers College in 1942 with a degree in upper elementary education. Lois taught briefly in Sheboygan. She graduated from St. Louis University under the auspices of the Army Air Corps Training Command during WWII and taught electronics at Truax Field in Madison from 1943 to 1945 as a member of The Wirers, (Women Instructors in Radio Electronics School). Mrs. Rodgers taught in the Oshkosh Area Public School system for 24 years serving Washington School for 22 of those years. During that time she attained a state Certified Teacher of Reading K-12 Diploma.Lois was a member of the Paine Art Center, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, and the Womens Reading Club. She was also a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.Survivors include her two sons, Dr. Thurman J. T.J. (Valeta) Rodgers of Woodside, CA, Dr. James W. (Adrienne) Rodgers of Denver, CO; two nieces, Judith (Anthony) Ambroso of Oshkosh, Barbara (James) Sternat of Berlin and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thurman; and two sisters, Evelyn L. Krause and Amber E. Reinke.The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Noon at Emmanuel United Church of Christ (1306 Michigan St.) with the Rev. R. David Gaskill officiating. Family and friends may visit the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM to the time of service. Inurnment will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
