Lyle N. Hayes

February 24, 1923 — July 24, 2018

Lyle Napolean Hayes, age 95, of Oshkosh, passed peacefully and went to join his beloved wife Georgianna on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, surrounded by his family. They were partners for more than 70 years. He was born on February 24, 1923 to Raymond and Katherine Hayes.
Lyle attended a one room rural school house until 6th grade and then a two room Catholic school for two years. His parents then moved to Rice Lake where he completed High School in 1941. In the fall of that year he met Georgianne Hroch. Their first official date was December 7, 1941 the same day that WWII started. They were married on June 16, 1942 and Lyle was drafted into the Army Air Corps in late March 1943. He had training to be a radio operator in a B24 and flew his 26 missions with the 454 Bombardment Group. He returned home and after several other jobs completed 32 years as an insurance adjuster. His final assignment was to Oshkosh where he retired. Together they had seven children. Lyle was a member of the Elks Club, and enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, small game hunting, and spending time with, and adoring his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Georgianna especially enjoyed attending the children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.
He is survived by his children Jeanette Habener (James), Robert Hayes, L.Thomas Hayes (Michelle), Ronald Hayes (Kathy), his grandchildren Maranatha Hayes, Matthew Hayes, Alex Hayes, Martha Hayes, Angela Hayes, Christopher Hayes, Heather Potts, Ann Neitzel, great-grandchildren Nataly, Kaleb, Kody, Keegan, Noelle, Savannah, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Macie, Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Georgianna, brothers Charles and Clayton, sisters Agatha and Mary Dean and three infant children. His other sister Betty LeJuene survives him in Solon Springs, Wi.
A funeral Mass for Lyle will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish-St Peter site. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Oshkosh, where full military honors will be held.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. We would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for their fine care. Thanks to Paula for her timely advice and care to our father that helped ensure his comfort during this time.
