Margard Zur Horst

Margard zur Horst, age 84, of Oshkosh entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 28, 2013 surrounded by family. Margard was born on January 3, 1929 in Ober Breidenbach, Germany to Karl and Anna Habermehl. On April 14, 1962, Margard and Alfred zur Horst were joined in marriage at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Oshkosh and the two celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage together.Margard dedicated her life to service. She worked at Mercy Medical Center as the cafeteria supervisor for 25 years. After retirement Margard continued to serve Mercy Medical Center as a volunteer for 12 more years. Margard was also very dedicated to Our Saviors Lutheran Church and could be found there throughout the week quilting, packing mission boxes, working with the womens group and much more. She cherished her church family and worked tirelessly to support them.In her free time, Margard enjoyed many activities and led a very active life. She belonged to a bowling team for many years, enjoyed knitting scarves for friends and family and loved to cook for those she held dear. She and Alfred also enjoyed their annual trip to Florida when they would visit Daytona Beach and enjoy the views of the ocean.Margard inspired her tight-knit family and cherished family gatherings. Margard is survived by her daughters Sonja Quant (Robert) and Heidi Witt (Robert) of Oshkosh, her grandchildren Kristi Levy (Nicholas), Michael Quant (Marika), Ryan Witt and Michelle Witt. Margard was also blessed with many great-grandchildren; Sydney Levy, Alyvia Witt, Sophie Quant and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great-grandson and great-granddaughter this spring. She is further survived by her brother Heinz Habermehl (Beverly) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff of Mercy Medical Center and Pastor Kemp Jones of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for their kindness and compassion in Margards final days.Visitation will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Oshkosh on Saturday February 2, 2013 from 2:00pm 4:00pm with a service to immediately follow. A memorial fund has been established in her honor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
