Mary A. Holland, 83, of Oshkosh, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA died Wednesday November 2, 2005 at the Bethel Home. She was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on September 27, 1922 the daughter of Paul and Hattie Buhler Shimek. On September 3, 1941 she married Arthur Dutch Holland in El Paso, TX. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1987.Mary had worked at the Square D Co. in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the VFW Aux. Post 1908. In 1979, she was inducted into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame.Mary is survived by her two daughters, Penny (Don) Dutton of Oshkosh, and Lynn Holland of Chicago, IL, her two sons, Thomas Holland of Oshkosh, and Doug (Mary) Holland of St. Joseph, MO, three brothers, Bob (Shirley) Shimek of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ed Shimek of Minneapolis, MN, and Paul Shimek of Marshalltown, IA, a sister/in/law, Betty Shimek of Cedar Rapids, IA, five grandchildren, Ryan (Dawnelle) Dutton, Sarah Holland, Clara Holland, Aniek Holland, and Michael Holland, two step grandchildren, Jay Dutton, and Jacquie Hart, and by a great granddaughter, Makiya Holland. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Frank, John, and George Shimek.Her funeral services are tentatively set for Tuesday November 8, 2005 at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, IA. A time of visitation with the family will be established for Monday. Burial will be in the Cedar Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to the Bethel Home Foundation. Updates will be published on our website. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at the Bethel Home for the loving care that was given to their mother during her time at Bethel Home.
