Mary Jane Hoger

Mary Jane Hoger, age 89 formerly of Oshkosh died on Sunday June 12, 2011 in Spring Hill, Florida. Mary was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 27, 1921, a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Wright Hill. Mary wed William F. Hoger on August 22, 1942 in East St. Louis, Missouri. William preceded her in death on June 23, 1995.Mary was a graduate of the University of Illinois and began her teaching career during the war in Onarga, IL. After moving to Wisconsin, she returned to college, earning a second degree in Library Science. She then began teaching grade school and middle school at South Park Middle School for fifteen years. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority while in college. Mary had been involved in the Omro Presbyterian Church, served as a trustee and on the board at church. She helped start the 4H Club in Omro. Mary enjoyed reading and playing Bridge. Following the death of her husband, Mary moved to Texas to be with her daughter. While in Texas, she helped start a tree farm to supply trees for the highway medians. She was an active fundraiser for several causes and a member of a senior center in South Lake Texas. She was also very active in the Whites Chapel United Methodist Church. After 10 very enjoyable years in Texas, they moved to Florida where she spent her last years.Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Sharon Sherry and James Nevens, of Brooksville, FL; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Heist, Wilmington, DE and Kimberly (Christopher) Kuennen, Robesonia, PA; seven great grandchildren, Katherine Arnold, Avery Heist, Sarah Heist, Lauren Kuennen, Renee Kuennen, Allison Kuennen and William Kuennen. She was preceded in death by her husband William; an infant daughter, Catherine and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ann and Frank Middleton of Champaign, IL.Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Lake View Memorial Park with Rev. John Hobbins officiating. Burial will follow.
