Maxine R. Royston, age 81, of Oshkosh, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Sunday, May 1st 2011 at Bethel Home in Oshkosh, after a long battle with cancer.Maxine was born in Chicago, IL to the late Fred and Nellie Daniel. She moved to Wautoma to raise a family and pursue a career in Nursing. She worked at the Berlin Hospital, Wautoma Hospital, the VA Hospital in King, WI and the Winnebago State Hospital.Her life was one of love & caring as shown by the many cards and letters she received from her patients and their families thanking her for her kind and loving care. They called her their Favorite Nurse and truly an Angel of Mercy.She was the published author of the Oshkosh Encyclopedia of Old Recipes and Formulas and wrote many historical articles for the newspaper. She was also an extremely talented artist and drew the pictures in her book and hundreds of pencil and charcoal sketches. She was a business woman and owned her own antique store on Oregon Street in Oshkosh that specialized in Antique Dolls and Doll Repair.She leaves behind her son, Richard (Mary) Royston; daughter, Barbara Johnson; nieces, Joan (Phil) Runnels and Judi Cihowiak and nephew, Jim Daniel. She has three grandchildren, that she loves dearly, Erik Johnson, Brett Royston, Nichol Royston; two great grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley as well as many others who love her and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nellie Daniel; sister, Jean Sitterle and brother, Jim Daniel. She enjoyed living independently in her apartment in Oshkosh and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She fought illness quietly and valiantly without complaint. She will be greatly missed by all.In accordance with her wishes there will only be a private family service.She and her family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Aurora Medical Center and the Nurses and Staff of Bethel Home for the kindness and care to Maxine and her family during this difficult time.
