Mona Jean Walker

August 5, 1932 — March 30, 2014

Mona Jean (Reehl) Walker passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home, following a stroke she had suffered six weeks earlier. Monas son Kenneth and grandson Brett were at her side moments before her passing into the loving hands of God. Mona was born on August 5,1932 to the late Henry and Edith (Davidson) Reehl in Milwaukee, WI. Mona was married to Charles R. Walker Jr. in May 1955 and was divorced in 1980. She graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1950. Mona went on to get her Stenographic Certificate at Fox Valley Technical College.Mona served her country overseas with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service from 1988 thru 1997 in Tel Aviv, Israel; Karachi, Pakistan; Bogota, Columbia; and in Maputo and Mozambique in South Africa. Mona served her community at Winnebago Social Services, and as secretary for the Oshkosh Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps 1967-1974. She was also a volunteer at the Oshkosh Seniors Center 2000-2014 teaching computer skills and creative writing, and helped out on fund raising events.Mona and Charles home was a welcome place to many, many youngsters during her childrens years at home. Mona is survived by her son Kenneth Walker, Oshkosh, WI; and daughter Kathleen (Steve) Sonn, Oshkosh, WI; by grandchildren Arja and Brett Walker; Stephen Williams; Michael (Sarah) Sonn, Stephanie (Travis) Meissner; and Tiffany Sonn; and by great grandchild Evan Meissner. Mona was preceded in death by her brother Ralph Reehl and sister Willabell Koehler.A memorial service will be held for Mona Walker at 6:30 pm on Friday, April 4 at Living Water Lutheran Church (1585 S. Oakwood Road). Visitation will be held beforehand starting at 5:00 pm. In lieu of memorials, please send a donation in her name to The Oshkosh Seniors Center, 200 N. Campbell Road, Oshkosh, WI 54902.
