Nanette Britton

December 17, 1922 — January 10, 2010

Nanette C. Britton (daughter of Marie G. and Louis J. Colehower) was born Dec.17, 1922 in Normal, Il. She was the mother of Laurel B. Kamen of Washington, D.C. and the Rev Thomas W. Bye of Pentwater, Mich. She served five terms on the Wheaton, Ill. Public Library Board and 10 years on the Lake Forest Academy-Ferry Hall Alumni Council. In 1972, at a time when few women had credit cards in their own names, she testified before the Federal Reserve Board in Washington for equal credit opportunities for women. She is a graduate of Lake Forest Academy and attended Northwestern University. She was an active alumna and supported both schools all her adult life. She maintained homes in Winnetka, Ill., Pentwater, Mich. and Naples, Fla. In addition to her daughter and son, she is survived by three granddaughters: Erika Bye of Chicago, Il, Maryann Bye Storer of Charlotte, NC, Jessica Marie Kamen of Washington, D.C. and two great-grandchildren. She was first married to William H. Bye and then to Llewellyn G. Owens and after his death to Donald E. Britton. She will be buried in the Wenona, IL. cemetery on June 12, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. where a graveside service will be held by her son.
