Nao Xiong Thao

June 30, 1939 — October 22, 2006

Nao Xiong Thao, 67, passed away on Sunday October 22, 2006 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 30, 1939 in Moula, Laos, the fourth of eight children to the late Chong Lor Thao and Yee Lor. He attended high school for three years in the town of Kiablawv, Laos. In 1957 he married Neng Lee. Together they had fourteen children. Nao Xiong proudly served with the U.S. military as a captain. He fought alongside other Hmong and American soldiers for the U.S. secret Army during the Vietnam War from 1961-1975 and was wounded twice in the line of duty. In July of 1977, Nao Xiong took his family and escaped to Thailand to avoid persecution, becoming refugees, never able to return to live in Laos. In 1979, Nao Xiong and his family were given the opportunity to start a new life in Philadelphia, PA. In 1983 he moved his family to Oshkosh, Wi.Nao Xiong enjoyed visiting family and friends and helping others in the community, especially the Hmong community. His memory will be cherished by his seven children, Bee(Kia), Chuekao(Yay), Zoa(Shwa), Kou, Yer, Yeng, and Shelly; two sisters, Mai Thao and Shoua Thao; fourteen grandchildren Nue, Nuchi, Lyda, Emily, Michelle, Michael, Chi(Marvina), Xue(Meng), Lisa, Linda, Noulong, Phanyia, NuNtshiab, and Yue Xeng; one great-granddaughter, Chloe, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.Nao Xiong was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, seven of his fourteen children, four sisters, and a brother
