Philip G. Skaug, 92 of Oshkosh, died Tuesday March 2, 2010 at Bethel Home. He was born in Wolf Point, MT on September 8, 1917 son of Oscar and Martha E. Jellum Skaug. On December 5, 1940 he married Elsie Meixl in Oshkosh at St. Peter Catholic Church.Philip was schooled in Pennsylvania. He and Elsie moved to Appleton where he was employed by Ace Floor Covering. They then moved to Milwaukee where he was still employed by Ace Floor Covering. They then moved to Oshkosh where he went to work for Boeder and Stephen Carpet and Floor Coverings, then created a company known as Skaug & Lincoln Floor Covering Store. After the death of Mr. Lincoln he managed the flooring department at Sears. He later formed Skaug Floor Covering. He was in flooring installation for over 50 years. One accomplishment of which he was very proud is that he installed the flooring of St. Mary Catholic Church and School single handedly. Phil loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, but especially working on their cabin, known as Skaug Camp 8 in Silver Cliff, WI. He and Elsie enjoyed traveling. He was a Barbershopper (SPEBSQSA) and past member of the NRA and TPA. He had served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard as a weapons instructor during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post #70. He also restored the St. Peter Clock which is owned by the Kitz family. This was a prototype of the Apostle Clock that is in the Oshkosh Public Museum. He also flew in the replica of the Spirit of St. Louis when it was in Oshkosh.Phil is survived by his wife, Elsie Skaug; his sons, Thomas (Pamela) Skaug, Timothy (Mary Ann) Skaug, and Terry (Annette) Skaug all of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Tammy, Tina, Sherry, Joshua (Theresa), and Matthew (fiance-Lacie) Skaug, and Elise (Adam) Bunck; and three great grandchildren, Ally and Isaiah Skaug, and Nathaniel Bunck; and a sister/in/law, Dorita (Leonard) Woloszyk of Greendale, WI. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Silas and Paul Skaug; sisters Della Lord and Agnes Kroll; sisters-in-law, Elaine Holdren and Audree Pegel; and a brother-in-law, Earl Meixl.Memorial service for Phil will be on Saturday March 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Home Chapel (225 N. Eagle Street Oshkosh, WI) with Rev Adrian Chapin officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the chapel on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established for the purchase of a Norway Pine for Bethel Home.The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bethel Home for the care given to our husband and father.
