Rachel Christine Spanbauer

Rachel Christine Spanbauer, 16, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2014. She was born on December 1, 1997, the daughter of Steven Spanbauer and Brenda Lyons.Rachel is survived by her parents: Steve Spanbauer (Kay Beulen) and Brenda Lyons; Siblings: Payton Spanbauer and Reid Spanbauer; Grandparents: Richard and Carole Lyons, Beloit, WI; Uncles and Aunts: Nathan Lyons (Emily), Beloit, WI; Christine Sullivan (Michael), Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Thomas Spanbauer (Lonni), Patricia Wesner (Terry), Susan Spanbauer, Brian Spanbauer, all of Oshkosh, WI; Cousins: Dustin Lyons (Ashley and Xander), Elaine Segundino, Lisa Spanbauer (Rick Nemecek), Maggie Fenn, Jared Spanbauer, and Joshua Nemecek. She is further survived by extended family Laura Tod (Bill Kieneist), Erik and Jessica Kamrath, Andrew Beulen, Alyssa Beulen, and many friends and extended family. She was proceeded in death by her grandparents: Richard and Dolores Spanbauer and Uncle Gerald Spanbauer.Rachel attended Seton grade school and was currently a junior at Oshkosh North High School. While at North, she was a member of the Art Club, North Choir, and Spartonettes. She was also a proud member of the Polaris National Honor Society. Baking was one of Rachels favorite past times and she felt very lucky to have been employed by Tamaras the Cake Guru. Some of Rachels most cherished times were at One Step Cancer Camp where she enjoyed both scuba diving and water skiing. Rachel had survived cancer for 6 years before it captured her young life. We will always remember Rachel as survivor and a fighter. Her smile and positive attitude will remain in our hearts forever. A special thank you to all her caretakers at Childrens Hospital, Milwaukee, especially the doctors and nurses on her oncology team (Megan, Julie, and Sachel). A Mass of Christian Burial for Rachel will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church (830 S. Westhaven) with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of service. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery (1901 Algoma Blvd), Oshkosh at 11:00 am Friday December 5, 2014. Help support Rachel by wearing a splash of yellow to represent her favorite color!In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Rachels name.
