Rebecca A. Paulick

January 14, 1962 — February 19, 2019

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Paulick, 57, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away from serious health complications on February 19, 2019. Born in Oshkosh January 14, 1962, she was the daughter of Karen Davies and Daniel Paulick. During her childhood, Becky endured occasional teasing and name-calling by some of her classmates because of her disability. With emotional support from family and friends, Becky learned to ignore hurtful, ignorant insults and, instead, proudly embraced being the unique and valued individual she was, disability and all.

Becky graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 1980. In 1982, she began working at Lakeside Packaging Plus, Inc., where she continued working for 36 years until a month prior to her death from a terminal illness. Becky worked on a variety of projects at Lakeside over the years, and she took great pride in her work there. At Lakeside Packaging Plus, Becky made many lasting friendships with co-workers and support staff in an encouraging and positive work environment. She and her co-workers also enjoyed community activities together: exercise at the downtown YMCA; bowling at St. Mary’s lanes; visits to the Public Library; and, a weekly Wednesday community lunch and friendly fellowship at First English Lutheran Church with its members.

Throughout the 1980’s, Becky was an enthusiastic bowler, and frequently bowled with her mother Karen, brother Dan, late step-father Neil Davies, and late father Daniel. Becky also participated in the Special Olympics in bowling, and was on a team of four women—“The Golden Girls”—which advanced to the state team competition several years in a row.
Becky enjoyed many other hobbies and pastimes: reading books and magazines; doing crossword and word-search puzzles; listening to country music, live in concert and on CDs; enjoying TV game shows; and, watching televised pro wrestling, about which she had an encyclopedic knowledge and pleasure in talking.

Becky and her family were fortunate to be able to enjoy numerous memorable vacations and road trips together. A favorite destination was the live country music venues of Nashville, TN, and Branson, MO, in which they saw and heard many of country music’s greatest singers and bands. Becky and her family also enjoyed annual bus trips to Fort Atkinson, WI, to attend the Fireside Family Theater’s Christmas and Broadway musical productions. Becky’s other travels included: annual visits with her brother in the Twin Cities, MN; coach bus trips to the Black Hills in SD for sight-seeing and shopping; and, a trip to Washington, D.C., during the beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival.

Becky will be remembered as a gentle, kind, pleasant-mannered person who, though sometimes quiet and soft-spoken, was usually very friendly and sociable. She regularly helped her mother Karen with household domestic tasks, and with navigational assistance while Karen drove the car doing errands, her mother often complimenting Becky for “having a map of Oshkosh in your head”. Becky helped her family and friends whenever she was able to do so, and she never made fun of, or disrespected, others less fortunate than herself. Throughout her too-short life, Becky tried her very best in whatever she did, despite her disability. She had an admirable attitude toward coping with life’s many challenges!

Becky was loved and will be dearly missed by many: her devoted mother Karen Davies, of Oshkosh; brother Dan Paulick, of New Brighton, MN, whose family visits Becky always looked forward to and enjoyed; Cynthia Paulick, a longtime family friend; Bev Boettcher, a close family friend with whom Becky enjoyed talking on the phone and sharing Sunday dinners; Dan and Daphne Robl, our kind and helpful neighbors; Misty, a good friend from elementary school; and, her many friends and co-workers at Lakeside Packaging Plus.

Becky and her family are deeply appreciative and grateful for the medical, vocational, social services, and other support staff who cared for her over the years: Mary Miller, and other medical staff of Aurora Medical Center; Margaret Winn, and her dedicated staff of Lakeside Packaging Plus, Inc.; Janet of Fox Valley Hearing Center; Dr. Richardson, and his dental staff in Winneconne, WI; Dr. Larson of New Vision Optical; and, the medical staff of Edenbrook of Oshkosh for Becky’s hospice care. Thank you for your kindness, every one of you!
