Rex Albert Montgomery

Rex A. Montgomery, age 85 of Neenah, formally of Oshkosh and Madison, died at Theda Clark Medical Center on Thursday December 30, 2010 from a massive stroke. He was born in Oshkosh on September 12, 1925 the son of the late Hiram F. and Sylvia C. Kalbus Montgomery. Rex married Dolores Valtierra on September 11, 1948 in Madison. She preceded him in death in 1987. He then married LaVerne Geffers Roch in Oshkosh on August 3, 1993. Rex served his country during WWII in the Navy, being honorably discharged in 1946. Rex worked for the State of Wisconsin as Commissioner of the Railroads for 30 years. He was a hard working diligent young man who worked his way to the highest position of Wisconsin Railroad Commissioner from 1955 to 1987. He was Wisconsins Railroad Commissioner with the Engineering Division of the Public Service Commission. In the late 1960s his department was placed under the division of The Department Of Transportation. His employees stated that he was well liked, well respected, and considered a loss when he retired in 1987. He was a wonderful man, devoted husband and exceptional step father and loved by his entire family. He will be deeply missed and a huge emptiness will be left in the hearts of the ones he left behind. Rex was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and a life member of the Oshkosh Elks Club. In his spare time he enjoyed watching the Packers, bowling, golfing and time spent playing cards with friends. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Montgomery, Neenah; step daughter Patricia Roch and Sandy Schreiner, Neenah; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Jacobs, Waukesha; brother-in-law Donald Jacobs, Waukesha; nieces, Patricia Jacobs- Valtierra, Madison; Karen (Tom McHugh and their children, Emily and Becky), Waukesha; and nephews, Dave Jacobs, Oconomowoc; and Steve (Angela) Jacobs and their children Molly and Max, New Berlin He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores and nephew Donald Jacobs Jr. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Eastside at 1:30 PM, Rev. Nancy Krueger officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:30 to the time of service.Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A memorial to the Lions Club has been established.
