Richard B. Haberkorn

April 22, 1930 — September 1, 2019

Richard Haberkorn, 89, of Oshkosh, passed away on September 1, 2019 at Park View Health Center. He was born in Milwaukee on April 22, 1930, to Benjamin and Bertha (Zickau) Haberkorn. On June 12, 1954, he married Marilyn Rehbein, who preceded him in death on January 15, 2017.
Richard graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1948. In 1953 he received his degree in accountancy from UW-Madison, and began his career as an accountant at Hamilton Manufacturing in Two Rivers, WI. Richard and Marilyn moved back to Oshkosh in 1958, when he began working for the Buckstaff Company, eventually becoming Treasurer/Controller. He ended his professional career as General Manager of Oshkosh Architectural Door Company.
Throughout his adult life, Richard was a dedicated, active member of First English Lutheran Church. He served as Treasurer for 32 years, and estimated that during that time, and before when he was elected as a member of the Church Council, he attended over 500 council meetings. He also served on the FELC Trust Fund, Hinderman Endowment Fund, and the Evangelism, Future Programs & Facilities, Missionary Sponsorship, Public Relations and Youth Committees. In 2016, Richard and Marilyn were the first recipients of the 100 Year Award, honoring over 100 years of combined service to the church. They also enjoyed being faithful members of Neighborhood Center.
Travel was a lifelong passion for Richard. As a young father, he packed up his station wagon every summer, and took his family on long vacations to different areas of the country. Eventually, he traveled to all 50 states, and 67 countries on all seven continents. Richard was also an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed following his beloved Badgers both in Madison and around the country. He was fortunate to travel to Pasadena and watch his team win three Rose Bowl victories, as well as attend two Green Bay Packers Super Bowls. He played softball, golf, and bowled for many years, and looked forward to volunteering at EAA Airventure every summer, where he was a Co-Chairman of Main Gate North Admissions for 22 years.
Richard is survived by his three sons: Steven (Anne) Haberkorn of Oshkosh, Scott Haberkorn of Asheville, NC, and Craig (Amy) Haberkorn of Ft. Myers, FL. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Bartelt, of Ft. Myers Beach, FL.
