Richard Orville Shew

July 23, 1933 — March 27, 2009

Passes away early Friday evening March 27, 2009 at home surrounded by his family after a two year battle with colon cancer. Dick was born in Oshkosh at St. Marys July 23, 1933 to Wayne and Lucinda (Fritz) Shew. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1951 and was in the Army from 1953 to 1955. From 1956 to 1961 Dick has satisfactorily served an apprenticeship at M.P.Kelly Plumbing and Heating. After finishing his apprenticeship. The following year he became a Journeyman Plumber. Dick was a member of United Association of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters for fifty years. He retired from August Winter and Sons in 1996 after twenty years with them. In retirement he spent eleven years with the EAA as a Security Guard. He enjoyed this retirement career and so did the many visitors to the farm show, Great Outdoors and EAA that went past his gate and got directions and a smile. Remembered from year to year, sometimes he didnt need to bring a lunch, as campers would grill and bring him supper, or run out for ice cream and bring him a treat. Dick served as financial secretary for local 134 from Oshkosh and later local 206 from Fond du Lac/ Oshkosh. He was also a member of District Council. Dick was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church having been baptized and confirmed there. Active, he participated in choir, brotherhood, and couples club. He had many terms on the church council and was a perennial member of the property committee. He was a good friend and neighbor who never refused a request of any kind. Dick was a WONDERFUL husband, father, and grandfather.Dick is survived by wife Barbara, his children, Timothy J. Shew, Kathleen Grap (friend Jay Pamperin) and Sarah J. Shew; Grandchildren: Tiffany (husband Scott) Feuerhammer, Ray Stiller, Savanna Stiller, Serena Grap, Valerie Grap, Branden Boegh, and Ashley Boegh; special son-in-law Paul Boegh (and family Kris, Hunter, and Emma); also survived by a brother Wayne (Bernice) Shew and a sister Shirley (Wally) Pettit. Preceded in death by his parents and his son Michael R. Shew. His interests were his childrens and grandchildrens activities, bowling, Canadian fishing trips, hunting, Casino trips (lottery tickets and scratch offs), and golfing.Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Wednesday April 1, 2009 at 10:30 AM with rev. Eric Quinney-Burnard officiating. Visitation will be at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Westside on Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday at church from 9:30 am to the time of service. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park with Military Honors. A memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran ChurchThanks to Dr. Dar and the nurses at the Vince Lombardi Clinic, also Dr. Matt Fischer and the Aurora Hospice Team, especially Lynda, Tammy, Connie and Ken.Those we love dont go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, Unheard, but always near, Still loved, Still missed and very dear.
