Robert Carl Greene

Robert Carl Greene of Oshkosh, WI, age 74, passed away at home on Wed., June 28, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer.He was born May 3, 1932 in Marquette, MI to the late Carl and Frances Delbridge Greene. He attended Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette, MI and graduated from Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, MI. He married LeAnne Harrington Greene in 1953 in Marquette, MI at St. Peters Cathedral.Bob began his career at Tonella & Rupp Furniture stores in Michigan. His father and uncle were co-owners in the first WG&R Furniture store on Main St. in Green Bay, WI. Bob and LeAnne moved to Green Bay in 1955 to help continue expanding the WG&R business with his brothers, Fred and Al. He shared ownership of the stores while working in advertising and sales. Bob started the WG&R store in Oshkosh in 1960, and the Greene family followed in 1961. Bob retired from WG&R in 1991.Bob was a member of St. Marys Parish in Oshkosh where he and LeAnne were active members and truly enjoyed being Hospitality greeters and Eucharistic ministers. Bob was a member of Knights of Columbus, Oshkosh Ys Men, Oshkosh Boat Club, Snowmobile Club, and also volunteered at the EAA Convention. Bob loved to travel! Many of his favorite memories were made with family and friends: taking trips in his RV, going on cruises, or taking his family on vacations together. He also enjoyed working on his computer, having coffee with friends, and loved seeing his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, LeAnne, and five children, Greg (Lori) Greene of Oshkosh; Cyndi (Al) Kalmerton of Oshkosh; Randy (Julie) Greene of Appleton; Kathy (Kevin) Joy of Bartlett, Illinois; and Bobby (Mary) Greene of Neenah; his brother Al (Lois) of Green Bay; and his sister-in-law Kathy Greene of Green Bay. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Fred Greene.Funeral services for Robert C. Greene will be held Friday, June 30, at St. Marys Parish, 442 Monroe Street, Oshkosh with Father Robert Stegmann officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 AM for visitation, followed by the ceremony at 11:00 AM.In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name for St. Marys Parish and The Aurora Health Foundation, particularly the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic of Oshkosh. A special thank you to the Aurora Medical Center, Dr. William Weber, Dr. Zahid Dar, Dr. John Naida, Aurora Hospice, Caring Connections and our family and friends for their incredible love and support.Bob was a very special person to his family and many friends. He will be remembered most for letting his actions speak louder than words, and for his kind, gentle demeanor. His family always wanted to do their best so they wouldnt let him down, as he never let them down. He will be missed by all!
