Robert Edward Schulz, age 87, of Oshkosh, died March 4, 2011 at Bethel Home. A decorated veteran of WWII receiving both the Purple Heart and Bronze Battle Star for his part in the Bloody Hill 360 on Bouganville, Northern Solomons in the South Pacific in the Armys Americal Division. After basic training, he was promoted to Sgt. at age 18 and served head of security for the atomic scientists and their families at Los Alamos, N.M. He was the personal escort for scientist Charles Oppenheimer until his stint in the South Pacific. Bob was famous for his sense of humor, his artistic ability, and his storytelling. Bob was born in Oshkosh, October 12, 1923 the son of Edward and Meta Schulz. He was married to his first wife, Joyce (Herman) Schulz on Jan. 11, 1945. She died of cancer on Sept 11, 1989. Robert is survived by his wife Connie (Owens) Schulz, who he married June 22, 1993. A beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, great grand father, friend, and all around good guy. Bob was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member and officer of many civic organizations and was a co-founder of the Otter Street Fishing Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, brothers Dan (Margie) and John (Beverly) Schulz, sisters Mildred (Jim) Nugent and Phyllis Schulz, and son Richard (Rick) Schulz. He is survived by his wife Connie, grandson Troy (Rachel) Schulz of Neenah, granddaughter Bobbi (Nick) Toros of Oshkosh, stepdaughters Jennifer Owens, of Oak Grove, MO and April (Tyson) Cates, Topeka, KS, five great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, brother Karl (Pat) Schulz, Oshkosh, and sister Margie (Walt) Johnson of Eckert, CO. Funeral Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Oshkosh, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 with visitation from 11 AM to 1 PM with funeral services at 1 PM. Internment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
