Robert Sosinski

June 5, 1927 — February 13, 2014

Robert (Bob) Sosinski, 86 years young, went to eternal rest on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh following a brief illness. He was born on June 5, 1927, in Berlin, WI, the son of the late Edward and Gertrude Sosinski. Bob served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He then made his home in Brooklyn, NY where he met his first wife, Regina Marzocki, whom he married on October 9, 1948; Regina died in 1985. Bob then married Jean Smith on April 21, 1990, in Brooklyn. In 2005, Bob and Jean moved to Oshkosh to be near family. Bob and Jean enjoyed traveling and were well known favorites at various restaurants in the area. They also enjoyed his favorite pastimes of bowling and golf with members of his family. He will always be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews for the ability to wiggle his ears; a trait guaranteed to put a smile on everyones face, no matter the age. Bob was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his sisters, Marian Weber and Cathy Schmidt, both of Berlin. He was Poppy to his granddaughters, Karen (Tim) Paugels of Berlin and Laura (Ryan) Lowe of Eau Claire. He is further survived by son-in-law, James (Karen) Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Connor and Claire Paugels and Olivia and Miles Lowe. He is also survived by special niece and nephew, Patti Abraham and Robert Malson, both of Oshkosh, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Regina (1985), his only daughter, Diane Schmidt (1984), brothers, Rev. Thomas Sosinski, Raymond Sosinski; and sister, Florence Malson.Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at St. Raphaels Catholic Church (808 S Westhaven Dr. Oshkosh). Relatives and friends may visit the family at church from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 12 oclock noon with the Rev. Michael Warden officiating. Military Honors will be held immediately following the service. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Berlin.The family would like to offer special thanks to Kari Klauer-Disterhaft and the staff at Oakwood Manor; the staff at Fox River Nursing and Rehab in Appleton, as well as the staff at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund in Bobs name.
