Ronald H. Gartman

Ronald Henry Gartman was a beloved father and husband, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and friend. He slipped peacefully into God’s hands on Sunday, November 4, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was 85.

Born in Oshkosh on August 27, 1933, to parents Alma (Krug) and Eugene Gartman, Ron was the youngest of three. He later married Dorothy Stieben, also of Oshkosh, on May 10, 1958. They were married 59 years before she preceded him in death on Sunday, July 30, 2017.

Ron began as a journeyman apprentice alongside his father at Gartman Heating, now known as Gartman Mechnical Services. He later bought the business from Eugene and owned it for many years. Ron and Dorothy were members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, where he continued to go with his daughter and her family each Sunday. Ron was a handyman who enjoyed caring for his rental properties and helping his grandchildren with their school projects. A Schreiner and member of Oshkosh Builders, Ron also liked to meet a close group of friends for dinner every Friday.

Ron is survived by his daughter Anne (Gary) Lerch, three grandchildren Erin (Tom) O’Connor, Bethany, and Andrew (Esther), as well as two great grandchildren, Sofia and Sebastian. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, sister Charmaine, and brother Callin.

Services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Visitation will be 9 am – 12 pm, with a service to follow. Entombment will take place Thursday afternoon at Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial has been established at Calvary Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
