Scott "Stiggs" Stieg

December 8, 1963 — May 23, 2023

My husband Scott “Stiggs” Stieg, 59 of Appleton, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Camp Stieg in Wild Rose. He was loved by so many. He was born December 8, 1963, in Oshkosh to Frank “Rocky” and Karen Stieg.

He has a brother Craig (Stacy) Stieg, and sister Kelly (Glen) Merten and their children Olivia and Quinn. Scott was married to Kelley Hale, his first wife, for a short time and from that marriage Scott has two wonderful sons, Jason Stieg and Justin (Natalie) Stieg. We have a grandson Jackson Stieg and a grandbaby on the way in July. He is also survived by sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Kathryn Schnelle (Gerry), Karyn Tellock, Tim Kurkowski (Wendy), Jean Baumann (Joe) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Olga Schutzendorf, Roman and Ida Stieg and a special aunt Beverly.

Scott and I, Jill E. (Kurkowski) Stieg, met in 1987 while I was a bartender at Packers Pub, dated, broke up a few years, and got back together in 1992. We married on October 19, 1996, in Oshkosh. In 2003 we moved to Darboy. In 2017, we bought Scott's dream get away in Wild Rose which came to be known as Camp Stieg. We worked very hard to turn the property into our dream retirement home where family and friends could gather. We hosted numerous parties and had live music by The UnderCover Band. Scott was a drummer, and loved to sing even though he was not the greatest singer, but the band did not care, they would let him get on stage and sing. Camp Stieg would host Smoker Palooza a corn roast, fisheree weekend gatherings and many more. Trophies were designed by Scott for our competitions with friends for Smoker Palooza and an annual Chili Cookoff. That was not the only thing he designed. Together we would build Shot Ski's for family and friends as a wedding gift usually.

Scott was a dedicated long-term employee of Oshkosh Corp. He started at Oshkosh Truck in 1985. He left there after 10 years to work for his dad's company and eventually ended up at Summit in Weyauwega. When Pierce bought Summitt, and he worked in Weyauwega 6 years until our move to Darboy when he transferred to the Pierce City Plant working in Global Logistics. An upgrade in facility to a new plant was when Scott really shined. He was a team leader running the Perkins Street plant with his boss Tom. Scott was instrumental in making the Global Logistics plant a money-making machine. Eventually with the purchase of Camp Stieg, Scott wanted to be back out in Weyauwega where he could be less stressed and wind down toward retirement. He returned back to the Pierce Refurbishment Center as a yard man forklift driver. He loved it.

October 2021 Scott was diagnosed with a very rare cancer of the bile duct known as Cholangiocarcinoma. He was already in stage 4 and had to leave his employment on short term disability then long term. Ultimately retiring May 2022. You guessed it, another big party with the band. At retirement he had worked 10 years for Oshkosh Truck and 25 for Pierce.

Scott was a Ford man. He owned numerous Ford trucks over the years. For years Scott attended the Off-Road Races at Crandon National Raceway. For his 50th birthday he celebrated it early with all his buddies at Crandon. Camping was part of Scott's life since he was a boy and his parents own a place near Camp Stieg and is why Scott wanted his own place near them. We no longer needed to go camping we had our own campground. You build it they will come, and they did. He loved to snowmobile, and we rode Polaris snowmobiles for years. Scott's first Harley Davidson Motorcycle was a 2003 anniversary edition Dyna Low Rider. Then he also had a 2009 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic. Our friends all had motorcycles as well and he took a 3,000 mile trip in 2013 out to South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana.

After being diagnosed with cancer the hobby of UTV riding became Scott's passion and obsession. His Polaris Ranger 1000 was his baby. He did everything possible to trip out that Ranger with lights, radio, horn, you name the gadget he put it on. It occupied his time and he loved it. But our dog Rosie loved it more. He spent hours with our black lab giving her rides to the lake. She never got out of that Ranger. She and Scott were at Camp Stieg and never wanted to come back. We got Rosie about 6 months after the passing of our first dog Rudy. Now Rudy and Scott are together.

Stiggs was named by the guys at OTC. That name stuck all the years and so did the friendships. His very special and dear friends Chuck Gutche, Harley Gutche, Billy Devlin, Brian Maas, Randy Freeman and Brad Romportl along with too many more to mention were lifelong friends. Karen Walenski was also very special to Scott, like another wife and her love and support for both of us while Scott was on hospice was huge.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. Oshkosh, WI 54904 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. I would like to thank Dr. Travis Kroner and his nurse Carol, the ThedaCare Hospice nurse Melissa and social worker Brittany, and #1 from ThedaCare Cancer Center. The ThedaCare Hopes and Dreams program, Gagne Ford in Princeton for giving Scott the opportunity to ride in the new Ford Lighting F150, Ford Bronco Raptor and Ford Raptor. That day was special and Barb Astrach who ended that day by giving Snotty Scotty a ride of his life in her 2023 Ford Mustang GT.

A very special thank you to cousin Mark Fredrickson for introducing Pastor Jesse to Scott, who was at his side at the time of his passing.
