Shirley Jean Bowen

October 12, 1937 — March 30, 2011

Shirley J. Bowen, of Oshkosh, age 73, passed away Wednesday March 30, 2011 at her home after a long struggle with cancer. Shirley was born October 12, 1937 in Oshkosh daughter of E. E. and Edna Albrecht. She grew up in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh High School, class of 1955. She attended college in Milwaukee. She moved back to Oshkosh to marry her best friend, Tom Bowen on October 8, 1960. Shirley was a stay at home mom for her two sons and when they left for college she welcomed so many little feet into her home. Oh, how she loved the little children. Shirley was a life long member of First English Lutheran and All Saint Lutheran churches. She taught Sunday School for many years, served on the Nursery committee and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed her family get-togethers each summer in Door County; Antique shows in Vermont in the fall and wintering in Ft. Myers Beach, FL. She also enjoyed her days at the YMCA and all the luncheons with the Y girls. All through her struggles, she smiled every day.Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tom Bowen; son, Kurt (Yvette) Bowen and grandsons, Asa and Kai of Edina, MN; son, Andy (Karrie) Bowen, and granddaughter, Annika of Eagan, MN; sister, Delores (Don) Bohn of Waukau, WI; brother, David (Sue) Albrecht of Oshkosh; sister Sue (Jack) Slye of Oshkosh; brother-in-law, Butch (Arlene) Bowen of Oshkosh; and sister-in-law, Sharon (Bill) Konow of Neenah, WI; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ken, and sister, Phyllis.Her funeral will be held Monday April 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church with Rev. Alan Schaffmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established to the American Cancer Society in memory of Shirley.Shirleys family would like to thank Dr. Baskaya and his staff at U.W. Madison, Dr. Karen Gremminger and her staff at the Wachtel Cancer Center in Oshkosh and the Affinity Visiting Nurses, Tina, Heather, Susan and Christine. Also, a very special thank you goes to friends and family for everything. I will always love you. See you later.
