Susan Bea Monteith

October 27, 1959 — February 18, 2022

Susan Bea Monteith, beloved of family and friends, died very unexpectedly at home, surrounded by family on Friday, February 18, 2022. Sue was born on October 27, 1959, just minutes before her twin brother Bill, to the late MSG (R) Joseph and Dorothy (Karow) Monteith.

Sue loved life, her family and all creatures great and small.  She was well known for her kind and generous spirit. Sue did everything for everyone. She was the “go-to” person when any help was needed.  She was most generous with her time, talent, treasure and love.

In her life, Sue was an accomplished equestrian, swimmer, sailor and chef. She loved boating on Lake Winnebago as well as sailing on Texas lakes and the Gulf of Mexico.  She loved all kinds of music.  She loved  gardening.  She was a rescuer of strays, especially cats in need that had been abandoned in the neighborhood.

Sue had so many skills and experiences that she brought to friends and family.  For the past 27 years, she was office manager and personal assistant for Oshkosh Industrial Roofing, and more recently Highway A storage.

Sue traveled the country with friends, appreciating the many cultures of each Region.  She especially loved and appreciated the culture and people of the Navajo Nation of Chinle Arizona.  She loved and cared for her niece Andrea in Wisconsin and nephew Matthew in Hawaii. She traveled with her sister during MaryAnn’s military career, setting up each new home over those 30 years.

Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Robert F. Monteith, her father, MSG (R ) Joseph W. Monteith, her mother, Dorothy May (Karow) Monteith; her grandparents Walter and Mary Karow of Oshkosh, and Robert F. and Elizabeth (Forsyth) Monteith of Pennsylvania.

Sue is survived by her partner of 25 years, Al Gearnhardt, her twin brother Bill Monteith (MaryJo), her brother Fred Monteith, Sister Kathleen Monteith Omori (Wayne) Hawaii, and sister COL (R ) MaryAnn Monteith. She is further survived by niece Andrea Monteith, nephew Matthew Omori; cousins Sandy (Karow) and Randy Parsons, and Steve and Sharon Karow; and beloved friends too numerous to mention.

Sue was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main St. Oshkosh. A memorial celebration will be scheduled at a date in the future.

In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Breast Cancer Foundation, Samaritan’s Purse, or the charity of your choice.  This would honor Sue’s generous spirit.
