Suzanne J. Mathe

June 11, 1947 — January 16, 2014

On January 16, 2014 Suzanne Jane (Mathe) Mathe of Oshkosh joined her Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer of over seven years marked by faith, strength and grace to the very end of her journey. She is now free of her pain and struggle and bathed in His eternal glory forever as one of His beloved angels.Suzanne was born on June 11, 1947 in Oshkosh Wisconsin, the daughter of Harold and Jane (Noe) Mathe. After graduating from Caroline Academy in Mequon, Wisconsin, Sue went to work for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Corporation as an Accounting Clerk. On May 6, 1967 she married Francis Mathe at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and they were blessed with three children. She continued for a time at Wisconsin Bell and then did other various jobs. She enjoyed being an Avon Lady, cake decorating at Schoenbergers Bakery, and working at Oaks Candy. She also took her turn as Cub Scout Den Mother and Bluebird Leader. Sue was a lifelong member of Saint Vincent Parish and, in 1968, joined its now-disbanded Christian Womens Organization, as well as helped clean Gods House once a month with a great team of women. She was also a former member of the Fire Fighters Auxiliary. Baking was her enjoyment, making pies, cookies, etc. for various community fundraisers, Fr. Carrs, the church picnic, or anyone who liked sweets. Her grandchildren added more fun to the creating and baking experience. She could often be found in her garden doing dirt therapy and meditation. It was here she always felt close to God. It was also another excuse to make mud pies and stay in her bed all day. Since she was a little girl, she also used garden time to plan her strategy for nighttime searches for night crawlers, a favorite pastime in which she was the only little girl in the neighborhood to catch more than all the boys combined.Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and one brother, Marvin Mathe. She is survived by her husband Francis Butch; children: Pamela (Scott) Kletzien of Waldo, Paul (Jodi) Mathe of Black Creek, and Patricia (Jason) Schaefer of Stoughton; grandchildren: Nic (Autumn) Kletzien of La Crosse, Christopher Kletzien of Waldo; Elizabeth Mathe, Emilie Mathe and Joshua Mathe of Black Creek; Evelyn Schaefer, Alyson Schaefer, and Gregory Schaefer of Stoughton, and great-grandchild Noah Tellier of La Crosse. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, godchildren, extended family and friends.Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Saint Vincent de Paul site) on the corner of South Park Avenue and Oregon Street in Oshkosh with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father Matt Simonar at 11:00 AM.
