Thomas "Tom" B. Philipp

March 6, 1946 — February 18, 2021

Thomas “Tom” B. Philipp, age 74 of Oshkosh, passed away at his
residence on Thursday, February 18, 2021. He was born in Oshkosh on
March 6, 1946 to the late Bertrand and Cecilia (Griedl) Philipp.

Tom graduated from Lourdes High School in 1964. He attended
Milwaukee Technical Institute after high school and then worked for
the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern for 37 years. He began his career fixing
linotype machines until the printing world transitioned to computers,
which he learned as well. Tom married Barbara Lenz on May 24, 1969
and their marriage was blessed with two sons. They celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in 2019 with family in Maui, Hawaii.

In his sons’ early years, he was an Assistant Leader of Boy Scout Troop
610, going on many camping adventures. He was a member of the
Lakeshore Club, a lifetime member of the Otter Street Fishing Club, a
member of the Elks Lodge #292, and also a former member of St.
Vincent Catholic Church.

Tom enjoyed time spent with his family at the cabin,“The Taj”, in Crivitz
and going fishing with his sons, especially in Canada where they have
gone no less than 25 times. Walleye fishing was his favorite. He crafted
his own spinners, and liked the challenge of using 4 lb. test line
exclusively. He liked ending a day of fishing by enjoying a cold
Leinenkugel’s or scotch with family. In addition to fishing, Tom enjoyed
deer hunting up until last year, and also snowmobiling, ice fishing, and
duck hunting in his younger years.

Many happy memories were made by Tom and his family on trips to
warm places even after he became disabled. They vacationed to
Mexico, Antigua, Costa Rica, La Romana, Maui, Hawaii and Oahu,
Hawaii. They also cruised the Bahamas and Cozumel.

Tom is lovingly survived by his wife, Barbara; and their sons, Paul (Lisa)
and Tim (special friend, Amy) Philipp; granddaughters, Catherine and
Ashley Philipp; sister, Pat Merrill; nephew, Matthew (Michelle) Merrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
