Verna E. Rueckert

March 12, 1927 — April 18, 2023

Verna Emma Rueckert passed away April 18, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born March 12, 1927, in Oshkosh, WI, to Walter and Frances (Doman) Ackerman. Verna graduated from the University of Oshkosh (UW Oshkosh) in 1965 and taught 4th and 5th grades in Menomonee Falls for 20 years. She was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a member of Young at Heart. After retiring from teaching, Verna enjoyed quilting for Lutheran World Relief. Widowed in 1997, she filled her time reading and playing games with friends and family. She took up regular quilting at the age of 80. Verna touched the lives of so many during her lifetime and was an encouragement to all. She will be deeply missed.


Verna is survived by her daughter: Mary J. Wick and husband Norman; son-in-law: David Tucker; grandchildren: Anne Wick, Andrew Wick, Katherine Wick and husband Justin Dickenson, Bryan Tucker and wife Melanie, Rebecca Kraemer and husband John; great grandchildren: Madison Tucker, Casey Tucker, Kayla Tucker, Natalie Kraemer, Allison Kraemer, Blake Dickinson; nieces and nephews: Paul Ackerman, Barry Rueckert, Paul Rueckert, Barb Kamp, Cindy Davey, Valerie Rueckert, Kathy Flores, Michelle Comeaux, Steven Comeaux; special friends: Bernice Hildebrandt, Lois Schmidt, and Judy Linser; and many dear friends of First English Lutheran Church, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Tree of Life Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Walter J. Rueckert, daughter Nancy Rueckert Tucker, and her twin brother Vernon Ackerman.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Tree of Life Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark T. Couser officiating. The family will gather with friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Verna will be buried beside her husband in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI. The service will be live streamed.


The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Long Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care, Angel Valley Hospice, and Amity Homehealth for the kind and dedicated care given to our beloved Verna Rueckert.
