Vernon Henry Tank

Vernon Tank, 95, Oshkosh, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at Bethel Home. His parents were Henry and Emma (Getke) Tank. He was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, its Senior Club GFY and NARFE. Vern married Esther Blood October 10, 1948, in Oshkosh. Vernon was a mail carrier for 38 years and served as a 1 Lt. in the U.S. Air Force, as a navigator, in the South Pacific. He was past Commander of the Oshkosh VFW Post 1908.Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Esther; a daughter, Joan (Frederick) Annis; granddaughters: Amy Annis and Nicole (Garrett) Heintz; a sister-in-law, Marion Blood; a brother-in-law, Gerald Sturges; a niece, Marcia Williams; nephews: David, Brian, and Kevin Sturges; and a cousin, Verna Witt Zarling.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric Charles; a brother, Raymond Tank; a sister, Elaine Sturges; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska Street, Oshkosh, with Rev. Chadwick Graham officiating. Interment will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Oshkosh. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. Full military rites will be presented by members of the U.S. Air Force and the Oshkosh VFW at the cemetery. A memorial has been established for Grace Lutheran Church.Vernons family would like to thank his caregivers at Bethel Home for the past three months, and for the loving care Vern received at Gabrielas Villa.
