Wayne W. Meyer, age 71, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away after a valiant fight against lung cancer on Saturday December 27, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, comforted by his beloved Marilyn, sister Sandy, and brother-in-law Dave. He was born in Sturgeon Bay on June 3, 1943 the son of Walter and Pearl Delsart Meyer.Wayne worked many years as a City Assessor and Building Inspector, first for Sturgeon Bay and then for Green Bay, until his retirement. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, where you could find him every morning sitting by the window in the stuffed leather chair that they called Waynes chair, having coffee with his friends. He enjoyed being out in the woods either hunting or appreciating the ever-changing beauty and surprises of nature, keeping his Nissan Altima in perfect condition, playing Yahtzee with Marilyn, and praying the Lords Prayer and Apostles Creed. A highlight near the end of his journey on this earth was a trip to Ireland before his surgery on October 22. He is survived by his first love in high school Marilyn Hein, two sisters Sandy (Dave) Rohr, Bonnie (Bob) Schultz, three nieces Tami, Christine, Corinne, and a nephew Tim. He was preceded in death by his parents and his ex-wife Ruth.A Celebration of Waynes Life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1756 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. A dinner, cooked by his friend Mike, will be served at 4:00.A memorial has been established. The family would like to thank the staff at Ministry Door County Medical Center, St. Vincent Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, and Affinity Hospice. At the end of his life, Wayne encouraged smokers to stop so they dont they suffer from the debilitating effects as he did.
