Obituary for Wilbert "Will" J. Schaick

Wilbert (Will) J. Schaick, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Park View Health Center, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Alfred and Christine (Loritz) Schaick on January 30, 1926 in Hebron, ND. Will was a member of the United States Navy, serving in World War II as well as serving in the Korean Conflict. He married Marilynn Brunover in Oshkosh on August 5, 1950 and celebrated 61 years of marriage together until her passing in 2012. Wilbert and Marilynn were both members at Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Will worked as a press operator for 30 years at American Can before his retirement in 1987. He was also an avid member of the American Legion Post 70, Last Man’s Club and Tin Can Sailor. Will also volunteered much of his time with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and helped Paul Poberezny with the process of relocating the organization from Hales Corner to Oshkosh. Will founded many operations at EAA including Flight Line Operations. His legacy can still be seen today through the signature “chopped VW Beetles” that he designed. He was honored for his hard work and dedication when Paul dedicated the main road through the campgrounds to him that is named “Schaick Ave.”. He also received two presidential awards and an honorary memorial brick at the Brown Arch for his dedication to EAA throughout the years.
Will is survived by his children; Scott (Cindy) Schaick, and Sandra Villalobos; grandchildren, Andrew Schaick and Kristin Schaick; and brothers, Lester (Helen) Schaick of Owensboro KY. and Al (Jan) Schaick of Oshkosh and many nieces and nephews.
A service for Will is going to be held at Konrad-Behlman Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr.) on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 7PM. with Rev. Andi Wolff officiating. A visitation will be held from 4PM until the time of service and burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Will can be sent to Old Glory Honor Flight or the American Cancer Society.
Will’s family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Gabriel’s Villa and Park View Health Center for the wonderful care and compassion he received.
