William F. Wingren

William F. Wingren, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born in Oshkosh on December 22, 1942, to the late Francis and Regina (Schneider) Wingren.

William was a lifelong member of Most Blessed Sacrament – St. Mary Parish and attended their school through 9th grade. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1961 and from Wisconsin State University – Oshkosh in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education as a history major and a minor in English. William was a student teacher at James Madison Junior High School in Appleton and after decided to continue his career there as a special education teacher for 28 years. He then taught United States History and retired in 1999 after 34 years of teaching.  He received the Mielke Foundation award for “excellence in teaching” at the secondary level in Appleton. William was also a Winnebago County Supervisor for 24 years, a Chairman on the Judiciary Committee and a member of the Parkview Committee. In late 1963-64 William assisted getting Congressman Race elected to office in Washington, DC and later became the 6th District Winnebago County Democrat Chairman.

William is survived by his cousins: Gail Steinhilber, Vicky (Bill) Terry, Linda (Roger) Anderson, Mike Michels; dear friends: Helen Limberg, Shawn (Linda) Peronto, Dave (Tina) Herbeck; and numerous other friends, students, and colleagues.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Most Blessed Sacrament- St. Mary Catholic Church, 605 Merritt Ave, Oshkosh. Visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
