William Ledru Carl Hamilton

September 8, 1927 — September 8, 2007

Obituary for William Ledru Carl Hamilton Bill was born in Milwaukee on September 8, 1927 to Ledru Patrick and Elfrieda (Kaufmann) Hamilton. In March of 1944 Bill entered the Navy to help out his parents. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard as an Ordinary Seaman on the Great Lakes, sailing on the Richard V. Lindabury. In May of that year he became a sailor on the USS Marathon & USS New York, eventually crossing the 180th Meridian on June 22, 1946 during Operation Crossroads. He participated in the testing of the Atomic Bomb at Bikini Atoll. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 14, 1946. Bill met his lifelong dancing partner, Esther Sinner and they were married on Nov. 29, 1947. He wanted to reach his 60th anniversary so bad. Bill held many jobs in his life, starting as a punch press operator, shoe maker, bus driver, roofer, on and on, but his most important position was that of husband, dad, and grandpa. He loved working in his yard and making projects from wood and then giving them away. Bill learned he had cancer in May of 2006 and fought a heros battle to the end. On Bills 80th birthday, his Lord AND Savior called him home. He is survived by his wife, Esther, son William (Lia) Hamilton, daughter Mary Beth Stevens, grandchildren Jackson, Jordan Hamilton, Amy, Cari Murphy, Megan (Jason) Brown, Amity (Ron) Mathews, and Rebecca Stevens, great-grandchild Colton Brown, sister Barbara Jecker, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wonderful supportive family of friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen, a grandson Chad, a sister Patricia, and two brothers Thomas and Harold. Funeral services for Bill will be held Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rev. David Pagel officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Wed. from 11AM until the service. Bill will take his final resting place at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Assoc., Aurora Hospice, and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Thank you for your visits, smiles, cards, prayers, telephone calls, hugs, tears, cares, and concerns. A special thank you to the Doctors, nurses, and hospice workers for all you have done. Bill left this earthly home knowing he was loved and cared for.Happy Birthday Dad!
