William R. Smerz

William R. Smerz, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, with his family by his side at Park View Health Center. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 30, 1933, the son of the late Peter and Harriet(Orlick) Smerz. On May 18, 1957 he married Joyce Nordhaus at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force and worked for the Green Bay Fire Department retiring in 1987. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish.Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce of 57 years, two sons, James (Beth) Smerz of Lakeville, MN and Michael Smerz of Madison, one daughter, Patty (Steve) Tschech of Sturgeon Bay, one brother, Darrell (Donna) Smerz, brother-in-law, Clifford Nordhaus, sister-in-law, Sue Nordhaus and is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law: Philip Nordhaus, Robert Nordhaus, Doris Nordhaus, Hilda Nordhaus, Dorothy (Tod) Sherry and Margie (Ted) Pittelkow.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Eastside, 402 Waugoo Ave, Oshkosh, with Rev. James Jugenheimer officiating. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of service. Private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.The family would like to thank the staff at Park View Health Center and the Affinity Hospice team for the loving care they gave Bill. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
