Alan C. Watson

September 10, 1953 — December 30, 2021

Alan “Al, Uncle Al” Charles Watson, age 68, passed away suddenly on December 30, 2021 in Oshkosh, WI. He was born September 10, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa to Eugene and Rosemary Watson. He moved to Brooklyn Center, MN at the age of 7 where he graduated from Park Center High School in 1973. He lived in Detroit Lakes, MN for 13 years before moving to Oshkosh, WI where he made his residence for the past 36 years. Alan worked for Marvel Manufacturing for 30 years, before retiring in 2018.

Alan is survived by his mother, Rosemary Greenland; his two brothers Larry Watson and Dan (Beth) Watson and his sister Diane (Paul) Thomas. He is also survived by his niece Kelly nee Watson (Jimmy) Madigan, and nephews Tony (Ruchi) Watson and Cole (Stacy) Watson.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Watson, brother Jim Watson and nephew Bryan Thomas.

While Alan never married, he was affectionately known as “Uncle Al, the kiddies pal” or “Al” to those who knew and loved him. Alan enjoyed many activities including woodworking, racquetball, hunting, gardening, feeding the birds and deer in his backyard and cooking, especially for his visits home to see his mother. Alan owned a furniture business in Detroit Lakes, MN for many years. His finished pieces grace the homes of family and friends. When Alan first moved to Oshkosh, his first job was creating many of the original displays for the EAA AirVenture at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

In addition to family, Alan leaves behind a wonderful group of friends. A very special thank you to Stu and Kay Krause - Al always said “Kay is my guardian angel” and “Stu has the best fish fries”, Mike Boyce for always taking care of the ‘little guy’, Bill and Ellie Gausman who generously opened their home to Al so he could finish his senior year of high school, life-long friends Jim and Kathy Gausman and to his many work and racquetball friends. Thank you to the very caring team of EMT and ER personnel at Ascension Mercy for their valiant efforts.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Rochert, MN, buying a bag of seed or corn to feed the birds and deer in your backyard or just hoisting a beer in honor of Alan.
