Bernard "Bernie" W. Faust, age 94, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on July 18, 2026, at Eden Meadows peacefully with family by his side.
Bernie was born on January 25, 1932, to the late William and Elsie (Wachholz) Faust in Oshkosh, WI, the first of thirteen children. Service has been an integral part of his character throughout his lifetime. For 30 years, Bernie worked at Rockwell International - an Oshkosh-based manufacturing company known for its work in aerospace, electronics, the automotive field and defense.
Bernie has been happily married to Bonnie for almost 40 years. He was very active in the St. Raphael Catholic Church in the Knights of Columbus. Bernie fulfilled his long-held dream of becoming a high school graduate at 93 years old.
He served his country in the U.S Navy from 1949 - 1957. As a result of his service, he remained active attending his ship's reunions. He proudly hosted one of the Harland R. Dixon's reunions in Oshkosh. Bernie was also active in the Tin Can Sailors organization, of which he hosted their annual bull sessions.
Faust also gave back to the Oshkosh community as a dedicated volunteer at EAA for 44-years. He proudly served on the airshow team during the annual conventions.
He was a lifelong union member. He was the UAW retirees president for several years. Bernie was an activist, a proud union member, and an enthusiastic and inspiring member of the Winnebago Co Dem Party. His "Never Give Up" attitude, positive energy and big smile were ever present at countless Dem events.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughters, Terry (Gary) Magnant, Sandy (Walter) Szesterniak; stepdaughters, Lisa (Craig) Basler, Julie (John) Beyers, Cindy (Sean) Nourse and Shelly (Dan) Schultz; sisters, Audrey and Shirley; brothers, Ron and Dennis. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Good friends, Steve Lord and Terry Schroeder
He was preceded in death by his son, Joel; daughter, Roxanne; brothers and sister in laws, Arthur (Ruth) Faust, Robert (Pat) Faust, David, Tom and William Faust, Carroll (Jo Anne) Faust, Gordy; sister, Joyce; and brother-in-law, Robert Schneider.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernie will be held on July 30, 2026, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, beginning at 1:30pm. Visitation will be from 12:30pm until the start of the service. Entombment and military honors will take place at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
As his nephew said, "He had one hell of a life. He did many things. When he gets up there no doubt he will be put on some committee."
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
