Bessie Virginia Last

March 29, 1921 — March 1, 2011

Bessie Virginia Betty Last, 89, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday, March 1, at Aurora Medical Center. She was born in Oshkosh on March 29, 1921, the daughter of Rexford and Myrtle Ihrig Kundiger. Betty studied at the Oshkosh State Teachers College and graduated in 1943 with a degree in English. She then worked as a librarian at the Oshkosh Public Library. On March 21, 1952, she married Arthur R. Last in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1997. Betty was a devoted mother. With Art in the navy, moves were frequent. Betty and Art started their family with son, Richard, in Sheboygan Falls. They added Jilane to their family in Dearborn, MI. While living again in Oshkosh, they completed their family with a second son, Terry. After spending six years in San Diego, the family returned to Wisconsin, residing in Appleton for 30 years. Following another move back to Oshkosh, Betty became active in the life of the Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church, serving in countless ways. She was a life-long league bowler, who always knew her average and actively bowled in a league at Oshkosh Lanes until last month. She loved playing golf and watching it on television. She was a regular card player and before her husband died she accompanied him on many sports car rallies. In her highly organized way, she contributed to multiple charitable causes, and she kept her family supplied with homemade cookies. She is survived by her sons, Richard Last of Oshkosh and Terry Last of Socorro, NM; daughter, Jilane (Bruce) Brooks of Appleton, WI; brother, Wayne (Alice) Kundiger of Spring Hill, FL; and grandson, Franklin Brooks of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Kundiger, and a sister, Jennie Radtke. Her memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church (1174 Algoma Blvd - Oshkosh) with Rev.
