Betty J. Kaltenbach

April 8, 1936 — September 21, 2023

Betty J. Kaltenbach went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 21, 2023. She was born on April 8, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan to William and Ida Grams. Her father passed away when she was six years old. When she was ten years old her mother remarried to Rudolf Mittlestead and she and her mother moved to his farm in Winneconne, Wisconsin where she lived until she graduated from Winneconne High School. She worked at the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, Roosevelt School, Graska Biological Supplies and Zion Lutheran Church. On October 9, 1954, she married Edward Kaltenbach, and they lived their entire lives in Oshkosh. Her favorite things to do included attending bible studies, watching General Hospital, doing paint by number, playing cards with friends, and spending time with family and friends.


She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Edward; children, Suzanne (Wayne) Ritschke and Tim (Jane) all of Oshkosh, and Lori (John) Helstrom of Omro; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephew, Carol Duhowski, Deborah (Tim) Volz, Patricia Giffel, Roger (Judy) Brasseaur of Saginaw and Barbara Price of Colorado. She is further survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as step-nieces and step-nephews in the Winneconne area.


She was predeceased by her parents, stepfather, son, Michael; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie (Roger) Brasseur and Dorothy (Warren) Duby. Also stepsisters Martha (Albert) Achterberg, Lydia (Rhinold) Krueger, Edith (Irv) Kamrath and step brother, Lewis (Gertrude) Mittlestead; nephew-in-law, Jerry Duhowski.


A memorial service for Betty will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer St. Oshkosh, WI 54902 officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Knoll. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Food Pantry.
