Betty Jean Mauritz

August 31, 1934 — May 19, 2024

Oshkosh

Betty Jean (Fuhs) Mauritz passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024 surrounded by family on her last days after a brief battle with cancer.

Betty was born on August 31, 1934 at home on the family farm to Warren and Ella Fuhs, sixteen hours after her twin brother Bob.  She attended Skeleton Bridge School, a one-room school house, from first through eighth grade.  Betty graduated from Winneconne High School in 1952.

On June 26, 1954, Betty married Lee Mauritz. Together they loved trips to Minocqua and Wisconsin Rapids to visit friends.  They also enjoyed walking miles on the weekends.  Taking family trips to Mexico, Kiawah Island, SC, California, Colorado and Disney World, Florida.  Betty also enjoyed shopping, ceramics, exercise classes, bowling and golfing.

After having two children, Betty became a certified nursing assistant, starting at Mercy Medical Center on the orthopedic floor.  She also worked for United Cerebral Palsy, being a bright light to the children in her care.  Later she was employed in private duty nursing for many prominent Oshkosh families, finally retiring at age 78.  She loved caring for others!

Betty had many amazing qualities – she was a warm and beautiful person inside and out.  She was a great cook and an impeccable housekeeper.   She could spot a crumb on the floor a mile away and have Lee get out the dust buster.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Lee, just short of 70 years, daughter Linda (Keith) Rhode, son Robert (JoAnne) Mauritz, grandchildren Shelby (Jerod) Lloyd, Lance (Shelly) Rhode, Lauren Mauritz, and Jonathan (Amber) Mauritz, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild due in September. She is also survived by her brothers Robert (Bridget) Fuhs and Howard (Judy) Fuhs, and sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Tollard and Barbara Daul.

She was preceded in death by her sister Mary (Howard) Johnson and brothers-in-law Harold Tollard and Frances Daul.

Special thanks to the Gabriel’s Villa Care team and Moments Hospice both for their exceptional care and compassion for Betty.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life which will take place at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh, WI on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, 4-6 PM.  Private burial will be held at a later date.
