Bruce Jerome Sternat, 69, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2026. Born on April 13, 1957, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Bruce lived in Mayville before moving to Oshkosh in 1994.
Bruce proudly joined the Army in 1976, receiving an honorable discharge when his service was cut short due to health issues.
Bruce's educational journey was one of perseverance and accomplishment. After earning his GED, he pursued an associate's degree in paralegal studies and police science before achieving a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Marian College. He worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and later volunteered at the local police department.
Bruce married Kay Weber on November 26, 1993, beginning a partnership filled with shared adventures and cherished memories. A man of diverse interests, he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His quiet demeanor belied a sharp intellect and a great sense of humor that brought laughter even during his final days. Bruce enjoyed books, movies and music, finding joy in the arts as well as intellectual pursuits. He was a faithful member of St. Raphael the Archangel Church.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of over 32 years, Kay; his brother John; his beloved Uncle Dan and Aunt Georgene Kohli; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Barbara Kohli Sternat, and his grandparents, Atley (Chip) and Lavina (Heinecke) Kohli and Rudolf and Irene (Rost) Sternat.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26th from 9:30 to 11 AM at St. Raphael the Archangel Church, 830 S Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM with Fr. Tom Long officiating. A lunch will be served immediately following the Mass, and the Rite of Committal and burial will take place at 1:30 PM at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2450 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh.
Bruce's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him as a man of quiet strength, boundless curiosity, and gentle humor. May his legacy bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. The family would like to thank those involved in his care, especially Dr. Alzoubi, UW Madison Transplant Clinic, Aurora Medical Center Oshkosh, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center Milwaukee, Aurora Hospice, Park View Health Center and Home Instead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park View Health Center or the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
