Carroll Eugene Powell

Carroll E. Gene Powell 63 of Oshkosh died at his home on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009. He was born in Mount Sterling, IL on June 24, 1945, a son of William and Nora Myers Powell. Gene was engaged to Gail Schmidt.Gene served his country in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated G & G Roofing & Construction. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and the New England Patriots football games on television and roofed in his dreams.Survivors include his fiance, Gail Schmidt, Oshkosh; daughter, Anastasia Powell, Sedalia, MO; his father, William R. Powell, Cambridge, IL; brother, William F. (Marlah) Powell, Cambridge, IL; sister, Sharon (Laurie) Young, Rock Island, IL; nephew, Billy Powell, Cambridge, IL; and niece, Erin Woods, Moline, IL. He is further survived by close friends, good neighbors and his roofing crew. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Nora and a brother, Bobby Powell.Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (240 W. 9th Ave.) on Tuesday Feb. 10, 2009 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Timothy Greenwald officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to the time of service. Interment will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Navy and the United Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
