Cecile “Penny” Hall Timmerman

October 19, 1926 — September 18, 2021

Born in Milwaukee on October 19, 1926, the only child of Harold and Dagny (“Mayme”) Nordseth Hall, Cecile (“Penny”) Hall Timmerman passed away September 18, 2021 at her home in Oshkosh.

She is survived by her loving and much-loved daughter Jill Timmerman, her husband, Larry Lange, and by her “late life dividend” grandson, Barry Lange. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Lynn Timmerman.

A product of the Milwaukee Public School system, “Penny” graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and was employed as a staff member of the Polk Library at that institution.

A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, her volunteerism included the Bethel Home Gift Shop, tutoring for the Winnebago Literacy Council, ADVOCAP, and Meals on Wheels.

She was active in the Oshkosh unit of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving in all offices except Treasurer. In 1980 and 1994, she was Auxiliary Chair for the American Legion state convention. “Penny” received national recognition for her Americanism program. In 2000, she transferred her membership to Unit 364, Winneconne.

She enjoyed morning coffee, keeping up on current events, spending time with family and white zinfandel. She was a fabulous knitter. She had a keen interest in history and genealogy. Family roots on her father’s side trace back to times preceding the American Revolutionary War and, on her mother’s side, to Norwegian immigrants who settled in Minnesota in the late 1800s. Her ancestry may have contributed to her feisty and fiercely independent nature. She lived and died very much on her own terms.

Viewing will be on Thursday, September 23 from 1-3pm at Lake View Memorial Park’s chapel (2786 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh, WI) with a service following, officiated by Reverend Ashley Nolte. Memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to a charity of your choosing will be gratefully appreciated.

Her family extends thanks to staff from Home Care Assistance and Aurora Health Care for their compassionate care.

“At the end of the day, all that matters is that we have loved and been loved.”
