Charles W. Shelton

April 5, 1930 — November 13, 2021

Charles Warren Shelton, age 91, of Neenah, passed away on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at Oak Park Place Menasha.

Charles “Chuck” was born on April 5th, 1930 in Bell, California, to the late Charlie W. and Hazel O. Shelton. After graduating from Bell High School in 1948, he enrolled in the U.S. Army's 24th Infantry (Taro Leaf) Division, the first US division to respond to President Truman's order for ground troops into South Korea. He was wounded by enemy fire in 1950, and subsequently awarded a Purple Heart. A trained draftsman and engineer, he worked for nearly 20 years for Masoneilan, a valve manufacturer in Montebello, CA.

In 1956, he married Joyce Pauline (Bunke). They lived in Whittier and La Palma, California until 1974, when they moved with their two children to Joyce's hometown of Oshkosh. After their move to Wisconsin, he worked as a designer for Oshkosh Truck, Rippin' Good Cookies, and finally Mercury Marine. Charles and Joyce's marriage lasted 43 years until her passing in 1999.

In 2000, Chuck married Nadine (Miller) at the Medina Wedding Chapel in Medina. They moved to Luck, WI and Zephyrhills, FL and enjoyed travelling to New York, New Orleans, and a road trip to San Diego before finally settling down in Neenah.

A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking, model building, and remodeling old cars, including a ""dune buggy" and a 1924 Model T "Fish Wagon". He was a lifelong devotee of the Ford Motor Company and owned nothing but Fords, from Thunderbirds to Gran Torinos to Broncos. Most especially, he was a dedicated soldier, hard worker, and a loving and devoted husband and father, His spirit and generosity touched everyone he knew, and his big smile and laugh will be greatly missed.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nadine Shelton, his daughter Sandra (Dale) Covill of Oshkosh, son Keith Shelton of San Diego, CA, and grandson Scott Covill of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie W. and Hazel O. Shelton, his sisters Olive and Annabel, and his brother James of Fortuna, CA.
